Senegal’s SedapTech Pioneers Digital Transformation in Poultry Farming

As Africa’s poultry industry continues to expand, farmers are increasingly turning to digital technologies to improve flock management, reduce losses, and boost profitability. In Senegal, one company is leading this transformation. SedapTech, a homegrown agritech enterprise founded by entrepreneur Mengué Diouf, is helping poultry producers embrace smart farming solutions tailored to African conditions.

Diouf’s journey into agricultural innovation began through personal experience. After investing in poultry production, she encountered many of the challenges that affect poultry farmers across Africa, including disease outbreaks, theft, limited farm supervision, and delayed responses to operational issues. During her initial production cycle, these challenges resulted in the loss of nearly 70% of her flock. Even with increased on-site oversight, losses remained significant in subsequent cycles.

Determined to find a solution, Diouf introduced connected cameras into her poultry houses, allowing her to monitor farm activities remotely and communicate with workers in real time. The improvement in farm management was immediate, inspiring the development of a broader digital platform that would eventually become SedapTech.

Today, SedapTech provides poultry farmers with an integrated digital management system that combines surveillance technology, mobile connectivity, data analytics, and remote monitoring capabilities. Through the platform, producers can access live feeds from their poultry houses directly from their smartphones, enabling them to oversee operations regardless of their location.

This capability is particularly valuable in many parts of Africa, where poultry farms are often situated far from urban centres and farm owners may manage multiple sites simultaneously. By offering real-time visibility into daily operations, the system helps farmers detect problems early and take corrective action before losses occur.

Recognising the infrastructure challenges faced by many rural producers, SedapTech has incorporated solar-powered equipment into its solution. This allows farms to maintain continuous monitoring even in areas where electricity supply is unreliable. Combined with mobile network connectivity, the technology remains accessible to a broad range of poultry producers across Senegal and beyond.

Beyond surveillance, the platform collects and analyses critical production data. Farmers can monitor feed consumption, mortality rates, growth performance, and flock health indicators through a centralised dashboard. This data-driven approach enables better decision-making and helps improve overall farm efficiency.

SedapTech also incorporates financial management tools, giving producers the ability to track expenses, calculate production costs, monitor profitability, and assess the financial performance of their operations. By integrating production and business management functions, farmers gain a comprehensive view of their enterprises.

The results have been impressive. Poultry farms using the platform have reported substantial reductions in mortality rates, with losses in some cases falling from double-digit levels to below 5%. These improvements have translated into healthier flocks, improved productivity, and stronger financial returns.

The company’s growth reflects the increasing demand for digital agricultural solutions across Africa. SedapTech has achieved strong customer retention and continues to attract attention as a model for locally developed innovation that addresses real farming challenges. Its success was further recognised when it won the Ayute Africa Challenge Senegal 2025, securing funding to support future expansion and innovation.

As poultry consumption continues to rise across Africa, technologies that enhance productivity, reduce risks, and improve profitability will become increasingly important. SedapTech’s success demonstrates how African entrepreneurs are developing practical solutions that empower farmers, strengthen food security, and accelerate the digital transformation of agriculture across the continent.

By combining firsthand farming experience with modern technology, Mengué Diouf has created a platform that is helping shape a smarter and more resilient future for poultry farming in Senegal and potentially across Africa.
