The growing collaboration comes as stakeholders prepare to convene for a strategic roundtable forum scheduled for October 16–17, 2026. The forum is expected to build on the government’s recently launched National Poultry Sector Development Strategy (NPSDS), which seeks to modernise farming practices, improve animal nutrition and increase productivity throughout the livestock value chain.
At the centre of the transformation is the growing use of digital technologies to improve the quality of animal feed and provide farmers with timely information for better decision-making.
Technology Improves Feed Quality
A key example is the partnership between Dar es Salaam-based SAB Investments, through SAB Feeds, and Dutch agricultural technology company AgroCares.
Under the partnership, SAB Investments serves as an implementation and education partner, using AgroCares’ Near-Infrared (NIR) feed scanner technology to provide Tanzanian farmers with rapid, data-driven feed analysis.
Speaking during the national Nane Nane Agricultural Exhibition, SAB Investments Managing Director Saida Bwanaheri said portable feed scanners had significantly improved the way animal feed and raw materials are tested.
The technology enables rapid on-site analysis of raw materials and finished feed, reducing reliance on lengthy laboratory testing and helping address longstanding concerns over inconsistent nutrient quality.
Bwanaheri said testing raw materials before production has helped reduce financial losses, improve feed formulations and enhance consistency for livestock producers.
The partnership also extends to capacity building, with AgroCares providing training in NIR data interpretation, precision feed management, biosecurity and flock health management.
The training is intended to strengthen the capacity of local technical teams to provide practical advice to smallholder and commercial poultry farmers.
Digital Tools Expand Access to Farm Data
International investment is also contributing to the expansion of access to quality animal nutrition products and digital farm management tools.
Koudijs Tanzania has expanded its distribution network across Dar es Salaam, the Lake Zone, Northern Zone, Dodoma and the Southern Highlands, reporting increased demand for quality animal protein and related livestock inputs.
The company has complemented its physical distribution network with the introduction of the “Poultry Coach” mobile application, a digital platform designed to help farmers monitor production and make informed management decisions.
The application enables farmers to track key production indicators, compare flock performance with industry benchmarks and manage farm data in real time.
The technology is expected to help farmers identify production challenges earlier, reduce mortality and improve overall farm profitability.
AgroCares Business Development Manager for Africa, Mukami Gitau, said sustainable growth in the livestock sector requires more than access to quality inputs.
She said combining reliable animal nutrition with digital tools, technical expertise and practical knowledge would be critical to improving productivity and strengthening the competitiveness of Tanzania’s poultry industry.
The emerging public-private partnerships are being supported by initiatives such as the Dutch Embassy’s Pavilion at Nane Nane and continued cooperation with local government authorities.
Stakeholders say the collaboration has the potential to create employment opportunities in technical support, logistics and distribution while strengthening food security and expanding economic opportunities for young people and women.
As Tanzania implements its National Poultry Sector Development Strategy, the increasing integration of technology, private-sector investment and government support is expected to play a central role in building a more productive, competitive and sustainable poultry industry.
