Poultry tech awarded

Scott Technology’s poultry trussing technology has bagged the Best of the Best award in the processing category at the International Production & Processing Expo’s 2023 new product showcase in the United States.

Held in Atlanta, the expo is considered the world’s largest annual poultry, meat and animal food industry event.

The award was given for new entrants in three categories – animal food, processing and live production.

“We were extremely excited to showcase our innovative product … at the show,” Scott Technology marketing and people director Casey Jenkins said.

Scott officially launched the automated poultry trussing technology at the event.

The US, which made up half of the global market of the poultry trussing industry, was a key market for Scott as it looked to expand sales.

Though the product was officially launched in the event, Scott had already bagged a significant order from the US.

Last month, it had announced a deal with US big-box retailer Costco Wholesale for the supply of 10 poultry trussing machines worth $14million.

Scott had estimated the US poultry market to be a $US95 billion ($NZ150 billion) industry with more than 900 million rotisserie chickens produced per year.

The new product addressed two key challenges faced by the poultry trussing industry – labour challenges and safety concerns, Ms Jenkins said.

“With our innovative technology we were able to address both. Our automated trussing technology will significantly improve operating capacity.”

Automation helped to remove the human element from the process and improved safety.

Scott sold the technology directly to customers in the US and said the market opportunity for Scott in North America was more than 150 units.
