Somali Livestock Farmers Receive Modern Feed Production Equipment to Tackle Forage Shortages Amid Drought

Livestock farmers from Somalia’s Baari Livestock Cooperative have received advanced feed production equipment from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), aimed at addressing forage shortages during droughts. This equipment—including balers, hay cutters, hay collectors, and silage machines—is part of a broader initiative to improve feed harvesting practices, boost livestock food security, and protect animal health during dry spells.

This support from TİKA also aims to strengthen the local economy by helping farmers increase production efficiency and supply higher-quality feed, a crucial factor in sustaining livestock during droughts. Members of the Baari Livestock Cooperative highlighted that the new equipment will play a key role in supporting rural communities, enabling them to withstand dry periods without significant livestock losses.

The initiative is also seen as an important step toward building a more resilient livestock sector in Mogadishu. By supporting these efforts, TİKA is contributing to Somalia’s agricultural and economic development, with a focus on long-term food security and sustainability in the region.
