Boschoek Bonsmaras, a stud and commercial cattle operation based in Limpopo’s Springbok Flats, marked a strong debut with its first own production auction on Friday at the Warmbad livestock market in Bela-Bela. The event drew brisk bidding both online and on-site, setting a solid foundation for future sales.
The highlight came early when stud bull AH22036 fetched R300,000, sold to Derek Ralfe of Up George Bonsmaras in Elandslaagte. In total, 26 stud bulls were sold at an average price of just over R107,692, with prices ranging from R40,000 to R200,000.
Pregnant stud cows with calves – offered as 3-in-1 packages – averaged R90,000 per lot, with the top package from Arthur de Villiers Farm selling for R100,000 to Somerset Nature Reserve in Bryanston. Stud cows with calves averaged R64,444, pregnant stud cows averaged R63,333, and pregnant stud heifers averaged R86,538.
One of Boschoek Bonsmaras’ pregnant stud heifers achieved R200,000 online, purchased by Genetic Link of Brackenfell, while a heifer from Thinus Maritz Farming sold for R150,000. Pregnant commercial cows and cows with calves from Willand Farming (Settlers) and Dikdoorn Bonsmaras (Bultfontein) fetched between R17,000 and R25,000.
Owner Jannie Senekal expressed gratitude for the strong turnout and solid prices:
“I spoke to many buyers over the weekend, and without exception, they are happy with their purchases. Seeing both buyers and guest sellers satisfied is the best indicator that they’ll be back next year.”
The auction was hosted by Vleissentraal Bushveld, with Mike Killassy serving as auctioneer.
