Avipro Rwanda Strengthens Its Position with Global Certifications and First Chick Hatch

Avipro Rwanda continues to solidify its presence in the poultry industry through major achievements in international certification and production milestones.

Advancing Toward FSSC 22000 Certification

The company recently underwent an audit for FSSC 22000 (Food Safety System Certification) and is currently awaiting final confirmation. Successfully completing this audit represents a significant step forward, demonstrating that Avipro Rwanda’s entire value chain — from farming and processing to distribution — operates in line with internationally recognised food safety standards.

This progress confirms that strong systems are in place and that food safety remains a top priority across all levels of the organisation. For consumers, distributors, and key clients, it provides added assurance that Avipro Rwanda’s products are produced under strict quality and safety controls. In today’s competitive market, compliance with global food safety standards is essential to building lasting trust and credibility.

Beyond compliance, FSSC 22000 certification presents strategic growth opportunities. Many international buyers and major corporations require this certification before entering into supply agreements. Achieving this standard strengthens Avipro Rwanda’s ability to expand into new markets, pursue export opportunities, and establish partnerships beyond Rwanda. It further enhances the company’s reputation both locally and regionally.

Building Systems and Culture

Preparing for the audit was not without challenges. As a relatively young company, this marked Avipro Rwanda’s first experience with an international audit of this scale. Establishing robust systems was a primary focus, requiring the team to fully understand audit requirements, develop detailed documentation, and align all operational processes with global benchmarks.

Equally important was cultivating a strong internal food safety culture. Employees across the organisation were trained to understand their role in maintaining quality and compliance. Oliver Mohabeer, Group Quality Manager at Avipro, played a key role in guiding the teams and ensuring that the required standards were achieved.

Halal Certification Expands Market Access

In addition to progress toward FSSC 22000 certification, Avipro Rwanda successfully passed its Halal audit. This certification significantly broadens the company’s access to important market segments, including the HORECA (Hotels, Restaurants, and Catering) sector, distributors, and institutional clients. In many regional markets, Halal certification is either mandatory or provides a strong competitive advantage.

The certification also reinforces Avipro Rwanda’s commitment to inclusivity and reliability, demonstrating its ability to meet diverse cultural and market requirements. To achieve this, the company strengthened its sourcing, slaughtering, handling, and documentation processes in accordance with Halal standards.

First Chick Hatch Marks Vertical Integration Milestone

In January 2026, Avipro Rwanda celebrated another major achievement with the successful hatching of its first chicks. The company hatched more than 10,000 chicks, achieving an impressive 87% hatch rate.

This milestone represents a strategic step toward full vertical integration. By managing its own breeding operations, Avipro Rwanda gains greater control over quality, supply continuity, and long-term sustainability. The achievement signals strong operational progress and underscores the company’s steady growth trajectory within Rwanda’s poultry sector.

With global certifications and expanding production capabilities, Avipro Rwanda is positioning itself as a quality-driven, forward-thinking leader committed to strengthening the poultry industry and supporting food security in the region.
