Updated PEFCR for Feed Published, Valid Until 2025

The Updated Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules (PEFCR) for Feed for Food-Producing Animals was officially published last week on the FEFAC website, according to a press release from the feed association.

The PEFCR Feed provides the methodology and guidelines for calculating the environmental footprint of compound feed. While the latest update was primarily technical, it did not introduce significant changes to the methodology itself.

This revised version will also be available on the European Commission’s Environmental Footprint Methods webpage and remains valid until 31 December 2025. By that time, further clarity is expected regarding the timeline for a comprehensive ‘full review’ of the framework.

During the update process, FEFAC began identifying potential areas for improvement and continues to welcome expert contributions to refine the methodology in the coming years.

“The technical update of the PEFCR Feed was a formal necessity, but its renewed validity is highly significant,” said Pedro Cordero, FEFAC President. “It reaffirms FEFAC’s commitment to supporting companies in communicating the environmental performance of compound feed production. Alongside this, the recently endorsed Green Feed Labelling Code and the GFLI Database serve as key pillars in advancing sustainability efforts.”
