Oman Temporarily Bans Poultry and Livestock Imports from Portugal and Egypt

Oman has announced temporary bans on the import of poultry and livestock from Portugal and Egypt as a precautionary measure to protect public health.

Under Ministerial Decision No. 235/2025, the import of live animals, as well as their products, by-products, and offal, from the Beheira governorate in Egypt is prohibited. The decision follows recommendations from the relevant veterinary authorities and aligns with the Veterinary Quarantine Law (Royal Decree No. 45/2004) and its implementing regulations.

Similarly, Ministerial Decision No. 236/2025 restricts the import of live birds and their products, by-products, and offal from Portugal’s Santarém Province, citing precautionary health measures.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) confirmed that the bans will remain in effect until the health situations in the affected regions are sufficiently addressed, with formal notice issued once the restrictions are lifted. Exceptions are made for products and by-products that have undergone heat treatment or processing in accordance with international standards set by the World Organisation for Animal Health.
