Renewed Hope Initiative Launches Poultry Farming Programme to Empower Women and Youth in Nigeria

In a major push to stimulate rural economies and support grassroots development, the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) has officially launched the Renewed Hope Women and Youth Empowerment Programme in Oba-Oke, Olorunda Local Government Area of Osun State, Nigeria. This initiative forms a key part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader agenda to drive agricultural productivity, reduce unemployment, and promote self-reliance in rural communities.

Specifically designed to benefit women and youth, the programme introduces participants to a sustainable poultry farming model—offering both economic opportunity and long-term empowerment.

A Revolving Scheme for Self-Sufficiency

During the launch, NALDA Executive Secretary Cornelius Oluwasegun Adebayo described the programme as a “transformational social enterprise” aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s middle-income population. Each beneficiary receives a starter kit comprising:

  • Two poultry cages

  • Twenty 3-week-old chicks

  • Four bags of poultry feed

This model eliminates the high barrier of startup capital for aspiring farmers. After a 3–4 week rearing period, certified off-takers purchase the mature birds. Profits are then shared between the beneficiaries, NALDA, and host communities—creating a revolving system of reinvestment that supports growth, sustainability, and local economic resilience.

NALDA’s Broader Mandate

Adebayo also reflected on NALDA’s legacy, established in 1992 and revitalised in June 2020 under former President Muhammadu Buhari. Today, the Authority oversees large tracts of agricultural land held in trust for Nigerian communities and plays a pivotal role in land preparation, input supply, marketing, storage, and stakeholder partnerships—both local and international.

This wide-ranging mandate enables NALDA to implement holistic agricultural programmes that go beyond land use, fostering sustainable agribusiness ecosystems that drive community transformation.

More Than a Government Programme

Adebayo was clear that the Renewed Hope programme is not a handout, but a strategic empowerment platform. By providing tools, training, and a built-in market, the initiative aims to:

  • Strengthen national food security

  • Reduce youth unemployment

  • Enhance agricultural exports

He emphasised that although the initiative is being implemented under a political administration, its objectives are non-partisan and focused on delivering lasting value to Nigerians at the grassroots.

Commitment to Progress

In closing, Adebayo encouraged all participants to strictly follow the programme guidelines to ensure its success and replication in other communities. He commended President Tinubu for remaining steadfast in his commitment to his campaign promises, citing the Renewed Hope initiative as a clear example of action being taken.

Gratitude was extended to local leaders, community members, youth organisations, and women’s associations whose support made the programme launch a success. Adebayo expressed hope that the initiative would grow “from small seeds into mighty trees,” generating economic prosperity and opportunity across Osun State and beyond.

Strong Community Backing

The launch event drew strong community participation, with stakeholders from local groups, women’s networks, and youth organisations in attendance. Their enthusiastic support underscored the momentum behind the programme and signalled a promising start for its long-term impact.

The Renewed Hope Women and Youth Empowerment Programme stands as a practical, people-focused step toward a more inclusive, self-sufficient, and agriculturally productive Nigeria.
