Gade Gui Scales Up Senegal’s Poultry Sector with €4 Million Proparco Investment

Senegal’s poultry industry is set for a major leap forward as Gade Gui, one of the nation’s top poultry producers, embarks on a bold expansion into large-scale table egg production. The €4 million (about 2.5 billion CFA francs) investment from Proparco, the private-sector arm of the French Development Agency (AFD), marks a historic milestone — Proparco’s first direct financing of a small or medium enterprise (SME) in West Africa under its “Growing SMEs” program.

The funding will power the construction of a modern poultry complex featuring advanced laying-hen units, hatcheries, egg-sorting, and packaging facilities. Once operational, the site will produce over 80 million eggs annually, helping to strengthen Senegal’s food security, curb imports, and stabilize local egg prices.

By venturing beyond broiler production, Gade Gui is transforming into a fully integrated poultry enterprise — spanning breeding, feeding, production, and distribution. This diversification aligns with Senegal’s Plan Sénégal Émergent (PSE), which prioritizes local food self-sufficiency, youth employment, and rural development.

The expansion will create hundreds of new jobs, particularly for young people and women, across operations, logistics, and feed supply. Gade Gui also intends to empower local farmers with training programs focused on modern poultry and egg production practices.

To ensure high performance and sustainability, the new farm will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology supplied by NTD France, a European leader in poultry systems. Automation in feeding, climate control, and egg collection will optimize productivity, enhance animal welfare, and lower production costs — making Senegalese eggs more competitive across West Africa.

Beyond financing, Proparco’s support includes technical assistance in governance, financial management, and sustainability planning — helping Gade Gui grow responsibly while strengthening the resilience of Senegal’s agrifood sector.

Proparco’s Regional Director for West Africa underscored the project’s impact:

“This partnership with Gade Gui reinforces our commitment to food security and to supporting African enterprises that are driving sustainable growth and reducing dependency on imports.”

For Gade Gui, the investment is more than an expansion — it’s a mission to deliver affordable, high-quality protein while supporting innovation and local livelihoods.

With this move, Senegal takes another confident step toward agricultural independence, showing how strategic public–private collaboration can energize Africa’s food systems and unlock inclusive growth.
