Elea Partners with Pullus Africa to Transform Smallholder Poultry Farming in Northern Nigeria

The Elea Foundation for Ethics in Globalization, a Zurich-based organization committed to reducing extreme poverty through innovative entrepreneurial solutions, has partnered with Pullus Africa to revolutionize smallholder poultry farming in northern Nigeria. The collaboration aims to create sustainable economic opportunities for local communities while enhancing food security in the region.

Pullus Africa, headquartered in Kaduna State, supports poultry farmers by connecting them to essential resources such as financing, market access, and international agricultural networks. Poultry farming is a vital source of income for millions of Nigerian households, but smallholder farmers often face challenges including limited access to extension services, inadequate financing, scarce inputs, and fragmented market connections. With demand for affordable protein on the rise, addressing these gaps has become increasingly urgent.

To overcome these barriers, Pullus organizes farmers into clusters, each led by a trained Cluster Leader. These leaders coordinate access to services, facilitate knowledge exchange, and improve production practices. Farmers receive hands-on guidance combined with a specialized mobile application that helps them manage flock health, plan sales, and optimize growth strategies.

This model transforms backyard poultry farming into a sustainable micro-enterprise, especially benefiting women who gain flexible, home-based income sources. The approach not only enhances economic independence but also strengthens family resilience. Pullus was founded by Opeoluwa Fayomi, a former poultry farmer whose personal experiences shaped a scalable, community-focused model that is both practical and effective.

Through its partnership with Elea, Pullus Africa is strengthening governance frameworks and refining strategic operations during this critical growth phase. Together, the organizations aim to expand the model across Nigeria and beyond, empowering more smallholder farmers, supporting poverty reduction, and contributing to regional food security.
